Working Principle:
The thulium laser has several unique properties that distinguish it from the other lasers commonly. At 2010 nm,
the thulium laser has a similar wavelength that is closer to the peak absorption in water (1940 nm). Thulium laser
energy is delivered in a continuous wave. These properties of the thulium laser allow for a shallower depth of
penetration in tissue (0.2 mm vs. 0.4 mm) and a fourfold decrease in the zone of thermal damage compared to
the holmium laser.
The smaller zone of thermal damage with the thulium may decrease this side effect of laser surgeris. Its standard
silica optical fibers in a range of diameters can house the thulium laser beam. Silica fibers are robust, reusable,
